We often see barcodes on various products. Barcodes are electronically printed data that are readable by electronic machines. Barcodes carry product information such as manufacturing date, serial number, net weight and expired date. Mobile barcode scanner, often called as mobile barcode reader, is an electronic handheld computer that is mainly used for reading printed barcodes. A mobile barcode scanner consists of a source of light, a lens and a sensor to detect the light. The sensor functions as a tool that translates optical impulses into electrical signals. Besides these parts, a mobile barcode scanner may contain a decoder. A decoder analyzes the printed barcode image, interprets the data provided by the sensor, and sends the result to the output screen of the mobile barcode scanner. There are many types of technology used to make a mobile barcode scanner. Some of them are- Pen-type readers, Laser scanners, CCD readers, Camera-based readers, Omni directional scanners, and Cell phone cameras.
