It used to be that if a company wanted to take an inventory of what they had left on hand they would have to get a list and physically count everything that was in the store. It was a time consuming process that usually had to be done when the business was closed and was very prone to errors. Computers have made it much easier for businesses to keep track of the inventory they have on hand and barcode scanners have made it easy for businesses to count the inventory that they have without as many mistakes. A company can use a scanner to put any product that they add to their inventory into the database when it arrives and it can be removed from the database using a scanner when it is sold or is no longer part of the inventory. The inventory of a business is constantly updated and all that a business has to do is audit the database from time to time.
