Barcode scanning has become very commonplace with the advent of smart phones. A smart phone is a mobile device that features a powerful processor and many peripherals. Two peripherals that can transform a smart phone into a mobile barcode scanner are the camera and mobile data connection. By taking a picture of a bar code, the smart phone can reference the translated code using the internet. This is very useful for looking up product reviews as one shops. There are many other uses too. For example, a movie poster may have a bar code on it that links to a movie trailer. An album may link to a sample single off the album.
