AirScan 1.0 for iOS – Wireless Barcode Scanner with Bonjour ...

Melbourne, Australia – lividbox today is pleased to introduce AirScan 1.0 for iOS, their barcode scanner that can store any scan internally, and/or export it wirelessly to any Mac OS X device using the Bonjour, auto-configuring protocol. The user need only open the app on their iOS device, and their back-facing, primary camera will be activated. Users must frame the shot so that the horizontal red line passes through the entire barcode and then touch the screen. The code is photographed, read, stored, and then the code is sent wirelessly computer. Users may immediately verify a successful scan, as the top of the iPhone screen shows, for example, Result: 02299802.

AirScan 1.0 makes an ideal scanner for inventory, tracking, and lab data because it is iOS based. The user can employ the same iPhone they ordinarily carry all day, and whenever the occasion arises, conveniently perform a scan. It’s tantamount to carrying a standalone scanner around throughout the day, but without the bulky scanner. The iPhone or iPod touch work perfectly as scanners. Scans are not sensitive to whether the shot is well framed, perpendicular to the bar code, or right side up. As long as the app’s horizontal red line passes through the entire barcode, the scan will be completed successfully.

The optional, free AirScan Server software lives inconspicuously on the OS X menu bar, and receives every scan. In addition, scans can be copied directly into Mac OS X apps. The iOS device can be set up to communicate with various computers, and on launch the user must specify one of them. Another unexpected tool in the iPhone’s armamentarium, AirScan will be of great use to iOS device owners who must work with any kind of barcodes.

“Standalone barcode scanners never seem to be nearby when you need them,” commented company owner, John Wei. “With Air Scan, you’ll never need to search for a barcode scanner again. Just reach into your pocket for your iPhone.”
