Wearable wrist band bar code scanner for blind to acquire products ...

Life is not as simple and easy going for the blind, every small aspect of life is challenge for them but they cope up with life in the best spirit possible. One such aspect of their life is to keep pace with technology and the gadgets associated with and frankly speaking not many companies have given much importance to coming up with technological devices specially tailored for the blind. But that however is changing as is evident from some recent developments, for example the concept by Dinard JosA de Mata Filho. Specially designed for blind people this concept aims at helping the blind to shop just like an average person would do in a store.

Using this gadget one can get requisite information regarding the products make and its attributes by scanning the bar code using a special wrist-mounted barcode reader/scanner. The gadget also has a pair of ear bugs to recite all information regarding the product which tells a lot about whether to make the purchase or not. One just has to swipe the bar code scanner gadget over any product and the information regarding size, color, material used or the design is converted into speech and told to the blind shopper.

The concept for now seems promising but still there are few things that need to be given a serious thought. For example how the person who is blind, will locate the bar code on a product and for some products merely having audio description is not enough to make a purchase. Other than that the concept looks very logical and useful for blind people, so only time will tell as to how it fares in the gadget market.
