Barcode Scanners: What Are They and What Do They Do ...

Before you get to know how barcode scanners work, it is best that you familiarize yourself with the barcode. The barcode is a combination of certain digits or alphanumeric denoted under bar codes. There is some meaning in the lengths of the bars and also in their spacing. Normally there is a start and an end button that denotes the start of the code and its end. A barcode scanner is a device that has been designed to read the values in the barcode and help control stock or make the retailer informed with the current pricing. It is an electrical device that uses a light sensor to read the code and translate it into electrical signals. The electrical signals can be translated into understandable information for human using any computerized system. There are various types of scanners with different capabilities and also different technique to read information from a code. They have interfaces to make possible inter connections between them and computers and the most widely used interface is the USB interface.
